Your resume tells one story. Your LinkedIn profile has to tell the same one to a different reader, often a recruiter. For a founder returning to corporate, the profile carries an extra burden: it has to signal where you are headed, not just where you have been.
Here is how to position it.
Make your headline do positioning work
As a founder, your most recent title is probably "Founder" or "CEO." That is accurate, though it doesn't tell a recruiter what kind of executive you are today or where you want to go next. Your headline has to do that work. Instead of "Founder & CEO at [Company Name]," write something that signals your functional expertise and target role, such as: "Chief Revenue Officer | Revenue Growth & GTM Strategy | B2B SaaS | Open to Executive Leadership Opportunities."

Use your About section to tell the transition story
Most executives waste this section, and it matters even more for founders. Recruiters reading your profile want to understand: why corporate, and why now? Use your About section to bridge the narrative. Briefly explain the arc of your entrepreneurial chapter, the leadership capabilities you built, and the type of role and company where you want to apply that experience next. Make it forward-facing. Hiring leaders want to know what you will do for them.
Show leadership results in every role entry
Profiles stand out when they demonstrate strategic leadership, measurable achievements, industry expertise, and a strong professional network. Each position, including your founder role, should carry three to five bullet points in the same format as your resume: outcome-focused, quantified where possible, and framed around the leadership problem you solved rather than the tasks you performed.
Build your network deliberately
Executives should aim for 500+ connections, since smaller networks can signal limited professional reach. Who is in that network matters more. Connect strategically with leaders in your target industries, search-firm professionals who work at your level, and executives at companies on your target list. Your network is social proof. Make it work for you.
